Geared towards helping women of color in their pursuit of higher education by providing scholarships to facilitate their learning and further promote the advancement of women of color in academic institutions.

To be eligible for a Vagas With Degrees Scholarship, an applicant must:

  • Identify as a womxn or anyone who experiences life through the lens of womxn in body, spirit, and identity - past, present, future, and fluid 

  • Belong to a racial/ethnic minority group from at least one of the following ethnicities: i.e Black/ African America, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic/Latino

  • Student must plan to enroll or be currently enrolled at a US accredited educational institution of higher education not-for-profit, private or public college or university

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher 

  • Must reside in the United States. Scholarship is open to undocumented students


All of the following required documents must be uploaded via PDF format:

  • Please upload 1 current letter of recommendation (must be from teacher, professor or supervisor). NOTE: If they wish to submit directly, have them email: Applicant's must also  upload a document listing name and email of the person who will be submitting letter on their behalf.

  • Copy of unofficial transcript 

  • Letter of admission or proof of current enrollment for college or institution

  • Essay -  Answering ONLY one of the following questions (double spaced, 500 words min - 700 words max).

    • Question #1. Understanding your cultural background and intersecting identities, why does diversity matter on campus and in today’s world?

    • Question #2. Discuss an incident where your beliefs were challenged by an exposure to a different culture where knowing more about diversity would’ve allowed you to better handle the situation or take more from the experience.                             



-Proof of program acceptance is required prior to award disbursement*

-Applicant must meet all required eligibility and provide required documents in the “Applicant’s Attachments Checklist” in the Vagas With Degrees Application form, in order to be considered. Chosen recipient(s) will be asked to submit photo to be highlighted on the website and social media. 


-Chosen scholarship recipient will be responsible for hosting at least 1 workshop of a pre-approved topic they are most passionate about. Recipient will have from September 2021 - May 2022 to present. Additionally, please note, HVBR will require recipient to maintain an active and engaged role within HVBR for a minimum of one year.

-PHD Scholarship Candidates will be required to help with a special project. HVBR reserves the right to decide project, with consideration of candidates time.
