Vaga Adventures; Guizar Sisters Take NYC

November 7, 2016

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hanging out and being the unofficial tour guide of the awesome Guizar sisters. Let me tell you a little about them so y’all understand why they’re almost like family. You see, their dad and my dad were best friends growing up. Both of our families are from the same small town in Mexico, so we both knows each other's family really well and are all interconnected in someway or another. Both Lourdes and Susana met my mom when she was a newly wed and they often tell me stories about how beautiful my mom was with her long, black hair and big green eyes. Or stories about how they use to love when my mom would visit and french braid their hair, (funny cause homegirl must've lost that skill somewhere in between then and me being born cause she never knew how to braid my hair lol). I love hearing stories about my parents, or about my brothers and I when we were little. I swear, these ladies are the sweetest, most genuine people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and I am lucky to call them family.

The fondest memories with them include us hanging out in Mexico every year when we'd go for the towns Fiestas in December. For two weeks we'd be attached at the hip and were each others dates to all of the events lol. From los toros, dancing en la terraza, dando vueltas en la plaza and even teasing each other about our crushes, we always had tons of fun. Ahh Mexico, those were some good memories that I will forever cherish in my heart. Although I miss us hanging out in Mexico it was so great to be able to spend time with them in a totally different place: New York City!!

Here are some photos of us in Mexico!

This weekend was full of adventures and never ending laughter- with me telling most of the jokes and them laughing, of course lol! We saw some spectacular sights and ate delicious food. Thursday, Amina, and I met with them at their hotel- wait hold up, let me just say they requested Amina's presence LOL cause they had seen her in my snaps and were dying to meet her!

Friday I met with them in Central Park and had a delicious crepe while hanging out on a bridge. The weather was perfect! Afterwards we went to The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) to see Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous work: The Starry Night painted in June 1889. Y'all, seeing that painting in person was pretty amazing!!! I mean, I’ve learned about this painting and seen it in textbooks but I never in a million years imagined I'd be seeing it in person one day. Also I’m kind of ashamed that I’ve lived in NYC for over a year and I had NO IDEA this painting along with other Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso artwork were a part of a permanent collection in the museum. #Embarrassing lol, have I been living under a rock or what? BTW: If you’re ever in NYC  head over to see the awesome artwork on Friday evenings because it’s FREE from 4-8:00pm!!! Otherwise each ticket is about $25.00 (ain't nobody got money for that). After escaping the massive crowds at the MoMA, we walked down 5th Avenue and did some window shopping cause your girl cannot afford any Prada or Gucci. We made a pit stop at the infamous Flat Iron Building and checked out the gold sidewalk clock that’s been there since 1909!! (*gasps)

Here's a photo of me that I made Grace take. It's supposed to be candid, hahaha

Later that evening we headed down to NYU, grabbed a slice of pizza and sat on a bench at Washington Square Park as we watched the water fountain and arch light up! Afterwards, I took them to a very special place that I like to take everyone who comes and visits lol it’s the tenth floor of an NYU building with a one of a kind view of Washington Square Park and 5th Avenue all light up!! (heart eyes emoji). We then ended up going bar hopping in The Village and headed back to the hotel to call it a night. Boy, were we exhausted!! I walk so much everyday but even I was drained- probably because I thought I'd be cute and wore some little booties with a heel. Yeah.... NOT a good idea! Listen, if you come to NYC make sure to pack some comfortable walking shoes, don’t even worry about looking fabulous. Unless you're Carrie Bradshaw and you can afford to take a cab everywhere, you’re going to be walking and taking the subway everywhere. The positive in all of this is that all the walking will help you burn lots of calories LOL!

The next day, I went back home to assume my grad school responsibilities (sometimes I try to forget I go to school hahaha) and finished my homework before heading back into the city to meet them for dinner and some much needed salsa dancing! We had dinner at, Nino’s on 46th (39 W 46th St, New York, NY 10036 ) and as per the waiters recommendation, they ordered spaghetti and meatballs and I chicken Parmesan. It was delicious! We then headed to salsa dancing at my all time favorite place, but if you know me, after that meal I was ready for nap! My hobbies include: eating and napping... and occasionally pooping. I'm like a newborn child except I'm not. TMI. Anyway...... we danced the night away and celebrated their survival of the concrete jungle! Of course I took them to my favorite salsa place that I take ANY & EVERYONE who comes and visits. LOL it's like tradition at this point.

The next day they departed and I was devastated. I love when family comes to visit but I hate it when they leave because it's a sad reminder that I'm here alone with no family. But to end this on a positive note, I am always so grateful that I am able to share awesome moments with family and friends whenever they visit New York City!!

Lourdes, Susie & Grace, I hope y'all loved NYC and come back to visit soon! Next time bring Mago too!

XO !

P.S. keep an eye out for a video blog of our adventures! I'm working on it as I type. I'm in the middle of midterms which explains why I've been MIA!
