A few weeks ago I was asked to be interviewed by Voyage LA, an online, LA based magazine for their series: The Trailblazers: Rewriting The Narrative. In the interview I talk about Her Vaga Bound Roots, my experience, family, culture, higher education, my establishing of a scholarship foundation and also touched on social justice topics including, people of color, oppression, gender equity, intersectionality and more!
I know that my story is not unique, and also that others may have had a distinct experience and endured worse struggles, and for that reason I wanted to shed some light on the struggles women, women of color, and first generation students face in academia and in life in general. I also wanted to share the motivation and inspiration behind my creation of Her Vaga Bound Roots and Vagas With Degrees Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit I've always dreamed of establishing.
I hope this interview will help to provide a better understanding of the women empowerment movement and reclaiming of the word: VAGA, and that it will resonate with others in more ways than one.
